Dear Friends,
ReplyDeleteWe are very excited about our upcoming Fallbrook Ward Reunion and the prospect of seeing old acquaintances from past years as we gather to renew friendships and honor those who have done so much to establish the Church here in Fallbrook and in North San Diego County. On November 6, 1960, the members of the Church throughout North County gathered here in the old Fallbrook chapel on College Street where Elder Marion G. Romney of the Council of the Twelve organized the Palomar Stake which consisted of the Carlsbad, Escondido, Fallbrook, Oceanside, Poway, San Diegito, and Vista wards, and the Ramona Branch. I was 9 years old and can still remember attending that meeting with my parents. But this is not just a reunion for those who were here at the very beginning. It is a celebration for all of us who have ever been a part of any Fallbrook ward.
Because Fallbrook is a small military town, it has a unique personality of having deep roots provided by those who have lived here all their lives, combined with families who have moved in from all over the country, as well as those who have simply lived here for a short while. This unique personality has provided a strong foundation while allowing a vibrant, living spirit of growth to evolve over the past 50+ years. Whether you’ve lived here all your life or simply stayed for a short while, you have played an important part in what had made the Fallbrook LDS community a wonderful place to grow in the Gospel.
As we prepare for this event, we hope that you will help out by going through your list of friends you have known here in Fallbrook and forward this blog on to them. Whether they choose to travel across the country to join us on October 16th or simply participate in our cyber conversation, we would like to invite as many participants as possible to share old memories, photos, stories, and feelings about living in a Fallbrook ward. We want to include everyone we possibly can. In the next few weeks we will be generating, to the best our ability, a list of former members of the Fallbrook wards, but we know that even with the best of intentions, our fading memories and resources might leave out some of our dear brothers and sisters. That is why we need everyone’s help to remember former members and find their contact information. So start spreading the word and then log in frequently to see who has joined the conversation. Let’s enjoy sharing our memories all the way up to the day of reunion. We look forward to hearing from you soon, and hope to see you on October 16th.
Best Wishes,
Eric Peterson

SYLVIA COX BLIMES
ReplyDeleteIt was a very small branch when my family moved there in 1960. My dad, George Cox, was so excited to get a job with the Fallbrook post office so he could leave Los Angeles. I had good friends like Gay Snow, Bonnie Chown the Wasden family, Jack Monnett, and my sister, Beth. (Who is now Beth Kolb.) Our MIA was very small. My sister liked Tom Kolb from the first Sunday we attended and she watched him bless the sacrament. My wedding reception, after my marriage in the LA temple to Bill Blimes, was held in the old building's cultural hall.
It has been many years and life has taken me many places (Paraquay, South Africa, Florida) but my experiences in the Fallbrook Branch remain with me.
Now my husband and I live in Lehigh Acres, FL. We have retired from teaching and being houseparents. We own a family history business that we do from our home and work at the Orlando temple. We have 3 children and 11 grandchildren scattered from CA to FL. Life is good and I love visiting my sister in Fallbrook.
my name is robert (bob) frost, my memories of the fallbrook ward are so many and deep with love and apprerciation for the members whom my family grew to love and call family. My family was brought into the church thru the long suffering efforts of Larry and Sharon Himmer, although my Mom (Betty frost) had joined earlier, it was my Dad whom brought up the rear. The Himmers used to watch my brother (lewis frost) and every Wednesday would take us to primary at the old blue chapel on college street. Growing up in Fallbrook was a treat, as as days go by the memories of this ward have turned into nuggets of treasure. We had a group of young men, second to none in friendship, there was Rick Himmer, Dale Himmer,Rick Ripley,Mark Ripley,Bob Dilley,Duker Dapper,Ross Dapper,John Holland,My Brother and Myself, all grew into great friends and fierce competitors, especially against the Oside 2nd ward and of the course the Packards from Crlsbad. One incredible memory I have, which taught me so much came from Bishop Richard Chown and his wife Joann, one night while my mom and dad were gone, my brother and I were left alone in our house, the house caught on fire was we were left homeless, The very next day, Bishop Chown and his family took us into their home and clothed us, fed us and allowed us to live there untill our home was rebuilt, 6 mos if i recall correctly, the pure love of Christ was demonstrated to us and a good samritan was sent to help us in our time of need. This struck such a strong accord with me, to this day, my home has always been made a safe haven for families and individuals in times of need.My memories could go on and on, from the awesome leaders to us young men, from Rich Needham to Bishop Morrison, to Steve and Jill Cate,Mark & Sonia Heyden to Gary Bledsoe,Ross Lewis, Dave Heid and his family the to Longs, the list would go and on, the Fallbrook ward was and will always be a family, regardless of where we are, what we are doing, the ward camp-outs and ward picnics at Live Oak Park to the New Building, Fallbrook Wards will live for ever as a Norman Rockwell portrait displaying the simplistic times of a town where people looked after their own. As some of the Lords choice spirits have past on, it is an awsome assurance to know, this family, "THE FALLBROOK WARD" will be together forever..
